Maxine Boase Briggs of Zephyr, Texas passed away on Thursday February 18, 2010 in Brownwood, Texas at the young age of 94 years. She was born February 25, 1915 in Lyons, Texas the daughter of C.R. (Charles Rass) & Montez Boase. She married James Blackford Briggs on February 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1969.
Maxine graduated high school from Zephyr High School and went on to receive a B. A. in Education from Daniel Baker University in Brownwood, Texas. She met her husband James when he was doing heavy equipment work in the Camp Bowie area. After they were married they spent their summer months dry land wheat and barley farming in Teton City, Idaho where James was born and raised. After the harvest was completed they then returned to Zephyr to spend the winter helping her parents work the cattle ranch since her father was full-timed employed with the Santa Fe Railroad.
She is survived by her only daughter Jenny Lynn Smith of Zephyr, TX; her grandchildren, Jamie Smith of Zephyr, TX, and Jennifer Driver and husband Dane Driver of Garden City, TX; three great-granddaughters, Jessica Smith, Jaylin Smith, and Jordan Driver; two sister-in- laws, Geneva Briggs and Arminda Briggs both of Teton City, ID; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sister-in-laws, Mary Briggs Parker, Florence Briggs Lent, and Eva Briggs Cutler; three brother-in-laws, Bert Briggs, Joe Briggs, and Glen Briggs.
Maxine enjoyed life and family at its fullest. She loved to travel, especially when it involved going to watch and cheer on her grandchildren and most recently her great-granddaughters at their many activities ranging from rodeos, stock shows or basketball games. Maxine was a big supporter of the Zephyr Community. She loved to go to community events and it did not matter if she knew the kids. She just loved to be a part of the community. She was never afraid of hard work and enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors. Maxine was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be truly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 800 Center Ave in Brownwood, TX. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m Sunday February 21, 2010. Maxine will then be traveling back to Teton City, Idaho where she will be buried next to her husband, James.
Services in Teton City, Idaho will be held Wednesday February 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Teton LDS Chapel in Teton City, ID. Burial will be in the Teton Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home. Family will receive friends back at the Teton Chapel after the service around 1 p.m.
