Mary Leona Pelfrey, 76, of Comanche, died Wednesday evening in Hendrick Medical Center at Abilene. Funeral services, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday the 21st at Heartland’s Chapel with Bro. Keg Gibson officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. The family plans to have a visitation period in Comanche Saturday evening.

Leona was born February 6, 1934, to Roy and Mary Francis (Lakes) Day in Frankfurt, Kentucky. She was 8th of 8 children. She attended and graduated high school in Frankfurt. For awhile after graduation, Leona worked and helped support one of her sisters. She later meet Shelby Pelfrey and they were married Oct 1952 in Evanston Illinois. They remained in town for awhile but later moved to the farm so Leona could be around horses. She had a great love for all animals. Her hobbies included all kinds of needle work and dancing. It didn’t seem to matter the kind of music or style of dance, Leona had to get up and be moving to the beat.
Leona is survived by sons, Michael Pelfrey and wife Penny of Aledo, Tx, Steve Pelfrey of Dayton, Ohio, and Dean Pelfrey and wife Diane of Tipp City, Ohio; grandchildren Justin Pelfrey and wife Crystal, Ryan Pelfrey and wife Amber, Chris Pelfrey and wife Sara, James and John Pelfrey; great-grandchildren, Destiny Dean-Pelfrey and Love Pelfrey; sisters, Jill Dukes, Louise Parnham, Jean Spruce, Betty Joyce Pelfrey, and Francis Bradock; brothers Sam Henry Day, Jr., and Charles Leroy Day. She was preceded in death by husband Shelby Pelfrey and parents, Roy and Mary Francis.
