Turner2Mary Jo Turner, age 84, of Brownwood went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 06, 2014 at her residence.

Services for Mary will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. John’s Church with Father Michael Mobley and Deacon Patricia Banks officiating, interment will follow at Jordan Springs Cemetery. Visitation for the family will be Thursday evening from 5-6 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Mary Jo was born on March 13, 1930 in Waco, Texas to Roderick and Mary Frances (Wernet) Mitchell. She attended Sacred Heart Academy, Waco High, Baylor University, and Texas Women’s University. She married William Alexander II of Waco, Texas in 1948, having their 66 year anniversary this month.

Mary Jo enjoyed and excelled in her career at the Finance Office at Connally Air Force Base, Waco, Texas and Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas. Her professional career in finance brought success and promotions within the U.S. Army, a promising future in business. With the birth of her first child, Mary Jo then decided and committed her life’s work to her family and their home as a full-time mother and homemaker. Her creative endeavors included painting and drawing. Some of her community involvement included: Woodland Heights PTA, worked as a volunteer in Food Bank of North Dallas, and Meals on Wheels, Brownwood. She was also an active church member and Alter Guild at St. John’s Church and Church of the Good Shepherd.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roderick S. Mitchell, Jr. of Waco, Texas and Specialist Malcom E. Mitchell II, who was killed in action in Vietnam; and nephew, Chris Mitchell of Beaumont, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Turner of Brownwood; three children, Maryanne Turner Fletcher and husband Wesley of Brownwood, Jane Teresa Turner of Austin, and Paul Andrew Turner of San Antonio; grandson, Jeremiah Wilson, Jacob Bunn and wife Christy of San Antonio; great-grandson, August Alexander Bunn of San Antonio; nephews, Patrick Mitchell and wife Nancy of League City, Mike Mitchell of Huntsville, AL, Timothy Mitchell and wife Ann of Audobon, N.J.; and sister-in-law, Clydie Ditterline of Warner Robbins, GA.
