Funeral services for Roscoe Blanton, 79, of Blanket, will be held at 10 am on Thursday, September 26, in the First Baptist Church of Blanket with Pastor Jerry Payne and Marvin Blanton officiating. Interment will follow at Blanket Cemetery, under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, September 25, at the funeral home.
Mr. Blanton passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013, in San Angelo Texas .
Marvin Roscoe Blanton was born on March 11, 1934, in Brownwood Texas to Dewey Roscoe Blanton and Leah Dealvia Powers Blanton. On October 23, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Jo Nelson. Together they made their home in Blanket the summer of 1974. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Roscoe was a very active person in the Blanket community. In the past, he had served the community as Mayor of Blanket, Fire Chief for the Blanket Volunteer Fire Department, several terms on the Blanket City Council and as a Deacon at Blanket First Baptist Church. He loved woodworking and had a very giving heart. Whether for a neighbor in need, or a project for the Blanket School system, he was always there to lend a helping hand. Roscoe Blanton will truly be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Those left behind to cherish his memory, are his children; Eugene Blanton and wife Rena of Meridian; Dewey Blanton of Blanket; Margaret Garcia and husband Domingo of Little Elm Texas; Marvin Blanton and wife Jennifer, of Campobello South Carolina; and Sonja Blanton of Blanket. He is also survived by one brother, Preston Blanton and wife Barbara, of Brownwood; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Jo Nelson Blanton; his parents, Dewey Roscoe (Roxy) and Leah Blanton; sisters, Linda Ryan, Georgia Lee Brennan, and Leona Faye Blanton; and brother, Cecil Blanton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Blanket Volunteer Fire Department or the First Baptist Church of Blanket Youth Group.
