Marvin McDonald, age 87, of Lake Brownwood passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012, in Brownwood. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
Mr. McDonald was born in Alva, OK, on December 1, 1924. He was the son of the late Charles and Florence Tidwell McDonald. He married Ethel Cristell (Horton) Alexander on August 28, 1959, along with her 4 children. They enjoyed 53 plus years of a wonderful marriage.
Mr. McDonald served during WWII in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 23, 1943 to April 7, 1946. He received an honorable discharge as a Motor Machinist’s Mate 1st Class. He received the following medals: WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
Mr. McDonald loved his family and was always bragging on them to others. He loved his church home, Rocky Creek Baptist Church and served as a greeter for many years and helped with the building of the educational building, after retiring from highway construction in Houston.
Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Loraine, and two brothers; Wilbert and R.J.
Survivors include his wife; Ethel Cristell McDonald, his children; Rita Nolen of Brownwood, James Alexander and wife Ann of May, Connie Arnold and husband Greg of Houston, Angela Shaver of Brownwood, Shelia Partin and husband Jesse of Brownwood, and Paul McDonald and wife Felicitas of Houston, his sister; Shirley Dickson and husband Howard of California, his sister; Juanita Dunlap of Loveland, CO., his brother; Delbert McDonald and wife Dorothy of Alva, OK, 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
