Brownwood’s Martin and Francis Lehnis Railroad Museum is a great place to learn facts and see artifacts of the railroad industry, but is also a great place for people to find a rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am until 4:00pm, the museum offers history and a chance to meet new friends which includes visitors from many places.

“We have the most amazing visitors from all over the world,” stated Curator Mary Irving. “Volunteering at the museum giving tours to visitors from all over the world is fun!”

Even if you don’t know anything about railroads, history, or research, it is all in the museum to learn, according to Irving.  They will teach you what you need to know, and the rest will be history.

For those who have other skills such as a carpenter, electrician, welder, general handy man/woman, or being a computer whiz, the museum can use you.

“If you are a retired school teacher, looking for an outlet for your creative and artistic talents, like working with visitors both young and old, we can use you,” said Irving.

Volunteers can use their talents and skills working as little as 2-4 hours a week and they can pick the days and times they want to work.

For more information, please come by the museum at 700 East Adams or phone 325-643-6376 and talk to Mary and the volunteers.
