Marshall Trammel Hill, Jr., age 86, of Brownwood passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 17, 2012 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 800 Center Ave., Brownwood with burial to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early. Visitation will from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday at Davis-Morris. Marshall was born on February 7, 1926 in Snyder, Texas to Marshall T. Hill and Alma Page Crossman and moved to Brown County as a child where he attended school in Early before joining the US Navy at age 17. Marshall served his country during WW II as a gunners mate on the USS Tryon in the South Pacific and was involved in the liberation of several Islands
. After returning from the war Marshall continued his education, earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Daniel Baker College and a Master’s Degree from Howard Payne University. He married Joyce Bigham in December of 1952 in Rotan where he became a teacher and football coach at Rotan Jr. High. He retired as Principal of Rotan Jr. High in 1994 and came back to Brownwood to work on the family farm where his enjoyed tending his cattle and growing hay. He was a member of the Austin Ave. Church of Christ, the Early Lions Club, and a former member of the Rotan Church of Christ. He was a Master Mason and lifetime member of the Zephyr Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joyce of Brownwood; son, Marshall T. Hill, III and his wife Dawn of Las Vegas, NV. sister, Terri Love of Grand Falls, TX.; grandchildren, Zach Forbes and his wife Amanda of Lubbock, Luke Forbes of Abilene, John Hill of Las Vegas, William Hill of Las Vegas and great granddaughter, Jessica Forbes of Lubbock.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marshall Hill and Alma Page Crossman; daughter, Jill Hill Fisher and brother John Edward Hill. Condolences may be left for the family at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com.
