Marshall Ray Switzer, at 80 years of age, a resident of Brownwood, Texas and after several years of Parkinson’s disease, went home to be with our Lord in heaven on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
Ray was born to the late Arthur and Maggie Switzer, in Whon, Texas on November 29, 1936. He grew up in Rockwood and lived in Texas City where he owned and operated Barry’s Florist. Upon moving to Brownwood he opened Forget-Me-Not Florist and was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church Lake Brownwood.
Ray was blessed with a large and loving family. He met and married his best friend, Carol Virginia Wall on January 2, 1960 in Texas City. Ray was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, singer, song leader, florist and a friend.
Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Switzer; his children; Renea and husband Paul Nelson of Oklahoma City, Mike Switzer of Brownwood, LaNita and husband Tim Rudloff of Brownwood, and Arthur and wife Melissa Switzer of Copperas Cove. Two sister-in-law’s; Nita Switzer of Santa Fe, Texas and Teresa and husband Tony Welch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by parents Arthur and Maggie Switzer; and siblings, Otis Switzer, Edmond Switzer, Thomas Switzer, Jane Lovelady, Nell Yancy, Greta Cline, Ida Lee Jackson, Junior Switzer, and Marie Stephens.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 24th at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25th at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.
