The man, the myth, the legend, Mark Paz, 59, of Brookesmith Texas, died a brave man’s death fighting off a very aggressive form of prostate cancer. Boo cancer.

He first busted onto the scene in 1959. Born in Pasadena, California, he was the son of Gloria Orman and Salvador Paz. His awesome big brother, Salvador Michael Paz, precedes him in death. Mark was educated by life. He lived more life than most people get to. As a child, he learned by traveling, hiking, and camping. As an adult, Mark married a girl that he felt was out of his league and had three sons, Mark, Michael, and Matthew. He loved his boys. Many who knew him probably got tired of hearing him talk about them. Camping would be a tradition that he carried on with his family.

He taught his sons and many others the importance of honesty, always doing the best you can, and putting in a good days work. From mining uranium, to rough necking, to tearing down cars, he loved working in manual labor. He was good at it. He worked hard because that is what you do. That hard work gave his family a good life.

He often sent money to different organizations that feed hungry children, save animals, and provide communities clean drinking water. He wasn’t a wealthy man, but his heart was rich. He was a member of the Grosvenor Baptist Church and fell in love with a congregation that loved him so much.

Mark cared about people. He coached many sports as his kids grew. Never playing many sports as a boy, he learned these games to pass on to his children. It was hectic having three boys play on three different teams, but he loved being able to teach them.

Mark loved everybody. Those who knew him, know he tried to be a tough guy, but inside was pure gold. As his children grew up, he opened his doors to many of their friends, who he loved like they were his own. He loved the Brookesmith Mustangs. All of them.

Mark is survived by his loving mother, Gloria Orman, his sons, Mark, Michael, and Matthew, and a whole world of people that sincerely love him. Don’t be sad about his passing. Be happy that we got as much time with him as we did.

Mark’s family and church will be holding a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, June 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Grosvenor Baptist Church, located at 9501 FM 1850 Brownwood, Texas 76801. Come help us celebrate this one of a kind guy!
