PattonMarkMark Allan Patton, at the age of 59, passed away to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 6th, 2014.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lois, sons Ryan and James, daughters-in-law, Amanda and Kristin, and grandsons, Timothy Mark and Liam Paul.

Though struggling with cancer for several years, Dr. Patton continued to teach his business courses at Howard Payne University with enthusiasm for both his students and subject matter. To family, friends, colleagues, and students he embodied the title of his book, Active Encouragement, being generous with authentic praise.

His love for his students and investment in his teaching was only exceeded by his love for his family. He was proud of his family’s achievements, faithfulness, and character. His home was truly his sanctuary.

Mark and his wife Lois taught business courses at colleges in Australia, Michigan, Indiana, and West Virginia, but he was especially thankful to work amongst a wonderfully supportive environment at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, the last five years of his life.  Dr. Patton was a man of deep Christian conviction and enduring faithfulness.

His parents, Caster and Dorothy Patton, preceded him in death.  Brothers, Stephen and Paul, also survive him.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Howard Payne University family and the community of Brownwood for all the love, support, and prayers during Mark’s illness.  A family funeral will be held in Tennessee.  In lieu of cards and flowers, the family has requested that gifts be made to HPU, PO Box 2369, Brownwood, TX 76804, in Dr. Patton’s honor.
