Marion W. Smith was born on February 9, 1927 in Coleman County, Texas. He graduated from Buffalo High School and attended Howard Payne College. Mr. Smith married Juanelle Dixon on July 28, 1945.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith founded Smith Roofing Company in 1947, and spent the rest of their lives working in the business they loved so much. Marion served as vice president of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, and received the Curtis Blackwell Award from that Association, which is the highest honor given by the Association for distinguished lifetime service to the Association and the roofing industry in Texas.
Marion was a member of the Brownwood Seventh-Day-Adventist Church, and served the Brownwood community as a member of the planning and zoning committee and as a member of many civic organizations.
Marion was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Lee Smith, parents Myrtle and Wiley W. Smith, wife Juanelle and son Dana Smith.
He is survived by son Damon Smith and wife Debbi; four grandchildren, Tara Hendrick of Highland Village, Texas; Ashley Moore of Southlake, Texas; Blake Smith of Los Angeles, California; and Paige Brum of Austin, Texas; and six great-grandchildren, Preston Hendrick, Olivia Hendrick, Greyson Moore, Grant Moore, Griffin Moore and Georgia Moore.
