On May 20, 2013, Marion Lee McGaughey was carried to Heaven by God’s angels and placed directly into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. He will be greeted by his parents, brothers, sister, son and many others family member and friends who have preceded him. What a glorious reunion that will be! Marion was born June 13, 1929 in Bangs. Marion married his beloved wife June, August 23, 1948, in Coleman.
Marion and June have two children, Mike & Kathy. During their school years, Marion was the treasurer for many of the schools and churches they attended. His hobbies included creating beautiful yards and gardens with his wife in every home they lived in, doing accounting work and playing games (especially Bridge) with family and friends.
Marion retired from General Telephone Company in 1987, after serving 33 years as Budget and Special Studies Director in San Angelo and Brownwood. In 1987, he and his wife built a beautiful retirement home on Lake Brownwood. In 1994, they moved back to San Angelo for a short time before moving permanently to Midland in 1996 to live in the same town as their daughter.
Marion and June are members of the Crestview Baptist Church in Midland and charter members of Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo. He loved the Lord and one of his happiest memories was the joy that he and June shared in helping to establish Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo, in 1987. With nine other faithful Christians, God grew the church from eleven Charter Members to 2000 members by May 2013. Marion served as Treasurer and June served on the Building Committee.
Marion was a devoted, loving Christian husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Marion truly loved his Lord, family and friends and thanked God for them as they truly blessed his life, just as he blessed everyone who knew him.
Marion is survived by his wife, June McGaughey of Midland; sister, Fern McGaughey Sheppard and husband Waymond of Bangs; Sister-in-laws, Pat Moseley and husband John of Horseshoe Bay, Donna McGaughey of Bangs and Flo McGaughey of South Hadley, Mass.; Daughter, Kathy Greetan and husband Pat of Midland; Daughter-in-law, Patty McGaughey of Houston; three grand-sons, Steve Morris of Midland, Brent Atkins and wife Christina of Midland and Matthew McGaughey of Houston; two granddaughters, Kristy McGaughey and spouse Jeremiah of Denton and Michelle Whitzel and husband David of Carlsbad, N.M.; nine great-grandchildren, Brittany and Connor Atkins of Midland, Dylan and Ashley Morris of Midland, Maya Abigail-Reese Safarik of Denton and Makayla, Meaghan, Makenna and Morghan Whitzel of Carlsbad, N.M.; and many other special family members and friends.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Arda McGaughey; brothers, Jack and Robert “Hoot” McGaughey; Sister, Joy Joyner; and Son Michael Lee McGaughey.
Pallbearers will be Brent and Christina Atkins, Steve Morris, Sheila Saltzman, Alan and Kevin Sheppard, Gary Atkins and David Whitzel. Honorary pallbearers will be Merv Hale, Waymond Sheppard and John Mosely.

Burial arrangements will be conducted by Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood. The family will hold a graveside service on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at the Bangs Cemetery with Senior Pastor Dr. Pepper Dill of the First Baptist Church of Bangs officiating.
