A Mass of Christian Burial for Mario “CHIEF” Bernal, age 56 of Brownwood, Texas will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery.  Rosary will be recited 7:00 PM Tuesday at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.  Mr. Bernal passed away suddenly, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at his residence.

Mario was born  in Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico on December 8, 1957.  On June 22, 2000, he  married Gracie Ballejo in Brownwood.    He worked in the concrete business  and was a rock layer.   Mario was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church and had resided in Brownwood for many years.   He will always be remembered  for his great sense of humor. Always making people laugh with his jokes and he loved his work in masonary, concrete.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years Gracie Bernal of Brownwood; sons Mario Bernal Jr and Luis Angel Bernal of Brownwood; daughters Diana &Juan AntonioRodriguez of Early, Crystal and Chris Buitron of Brownwood; step daughters Gracie and Rick Garza of Brownwood, Juana  and Daniel Pineda of Brownwood; Consuelo Castaneda and fiancee Alvaro Gonzalez of Stephenville, Texas; his mothersMaria Bernal of Ft. Stockton and Sophia Garcia Hernandez of Muzquiz, Coahuila;nine sistersMaria Hernandez of Ocampo, Coahuila, Oralia Hernandez of  Ocampo, Coahuila,  Rosa Bernal of Midland, Ermelinda Garcia of Grand Prairie, Dolores Bernal of Ft. Stockton, Matilde Bernal of Gardendale,  Paola Hernandez of Muzquiz, Coahuila, Isabel Luna Garcia of Muzquiz, Coahuila, Sandra Luna Garcia Cd.Acuna, Coahuila;  eight brothers Daniel Bernal of Slayton, Jesus Bernal of Brownwood, David Bernal of  Ft. Stockton, Macario Bernal of Gardendale, Eraclio Bernal of Cd.Acuna, Coahuila, David Bernal Jr. of Fort Stockton, Rodolfo Bernal of Ft. Stockton, Isaac Samudio Garcia of  Cd.Acuna, Coahuila;  grandchildren Marissa Jaquez, Marco Jaquez and Mya Buitron; step grandchildren Sergio Castillo Jr., Manuel Castillo, Tiffany Castillo, Luis Castillo, Daniel Pineda Jr., Sebastin Pineda, Aliza Maldonado, Ricardo Maldonado Jr. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his fathersDavid N. Bernal  and Mario Hernandezand by two sisters Petra and  Norma Bernal.
