Marigene Sellers Milch died peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, October 19, 2015, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Marigene was born in Abilene, Texas on March 27, 1927, to Parramore and Elizabeth (Bess) Sides Sellers. Her ancestors were part of the founding families of Abilene, Texas. She is the Great Granddaughter of J.H. Parramore, affectionally called “Colonel” and his wife Mary Jane Goodson Parramore and Issac Sellers and his wife Eugenia Howard Blanton Sellers.
Marigene grew up in Haskell, Texas, attending school there from 1st grade to 12th grade, graduating from Haskell High School in 1945. She attended and graduated from Hardin Simmons University in the spring of 1947. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. She was a member of the Cowgirls 1945-1946, wrote for the The Bronco and was a Cheerleader in 1946 and 1947.
She met Al Milch while attending HSU and they married on December 15, 1946. They were married for 64 years.Marigene taught school for 24 years plus maintained the job of being a mother and housewife. She was a 5th grade teacher at Northwest Elementary School in Brownwood from 1968 to 1983. She finished her teaching career at Brownwood Jr High in 1985.
Marigene was an active member of the First Baptist Church and a member of “The Pricilla Sunday School Class for over 40 years. She loved the volunteer work her Sunday School Class did with Good Samaritan Ministries for many years. She also loved to work in her beautiful yard, substitute teach, and enjoying family and friends for holidays and week-end visits.
After she and Al retired in 1985 from BISD, they traveled extensively for 20+ years all over the U.S. with many of their best friends and family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Al Milch, her son; Larry Milch, parents; Parramore Sellers and Bess Milburn, brother; Eugene Parramore Sellers Jr., sister; Sue Lee.
She is survived by two daughters; Suzanne Milch of Brownwood and Merrily MilchBelisle of Brownwood; daughter-in-law; Kathryn Crenshaw Milch of Ft. Davis, Texas. She also leaves behind 4 granddaughters; Tiffany Milch Roman of Big Spring, Roni Osborne Gonzales of San Antonio, Jennifer Belisle Hamilton of Abilene and husband Wes; Rebecca Belisle Wimpee of Rockwall and husband Jake and a grandson, Todd Baker of Brownwood. She is also survived by five great grandsons; Dylan, Michael, Luke, Rylee and Cole and eight great granddaughters; Katelynn, Haylee, Sydney, Avery, Reagan, Logan, Ellie and Landri. She has a cousin, Bill Sellers and wife Shelia of Copperas Cove, nephew Parry Lee and wife Selma of Abilene and niece Cindy Lee of Wichita Falls.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Fowler, Dr. Marlin Streffling and Dr. Steven Oines for the great care and respect over these many years. They would like to thank CMS Healthcare and Debbie Perkins, Betty Marshall, Regina Huesman, Jennifer Lowe, and Lainey Hall of Gentivia Hospice for their devotion and incredible care of Marigene over this past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in honor of Marigene to any of the following ministries; Hardin Simmons University, First Baptist Church Brownwood, Good Samaritan Ministries or Brownwood Meals on Wheels.
Arrangements by Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas. A Celebration of the Life of Marigene will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm Saturday prior to her service.
