Margaret Payne, age 88, of Talpa, died Sunday, October 27, 2019, at her residence.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman.

Graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday,  October 31, 2019 in Talpa Cemetery with Dr. Chas Shira, pastor of First Baptist Church in Coleman, officiating.  Interment will follow in the Talpa Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

She was born Margaret Elizabeth Grayson on January 25, 1931 in Delhi, Richland Parish, Louisiana, a daughter of Joe Orland Grayson and Nora Gibson Grayson.  She grew up in Delhi where she attended school.  On January 23, 1948 she married Paul B. Payne, Sr. in Delhi.  Following their marriage they lived in Snyder and Robert Lee before moving to Talpa in 2002.  He preceded her in death on February 19, 2005.  She was a homemaker and a Baptist.   In her younger years she enjoyed cooking and hunting.  She loved and doted on her grandchildren and loved all animals.

She is survived by her son, Paul Payne, Jr. and wife Lynne of Talpa; her daughter, Brenda Payne of Austin; two grandchildren, Blake Payne of Granbury and Christie Payne of Brady; one great-grandchild, Dawnya Nicole Plumley and husband David of Brady; one-great-great granddaughter, Gwenivere Plumley; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Hazel Newton, Grace Newton, O’ree Baker and one brother, Hilburn Grayson.
