The City of Brownwood welcomed a new member of the police force Tuesday as Officer Jesse Mares was given the Oath of Office and Law Enforcement Oath of Honor.
Brownwood Chief of Police Mike Corley stated that he was present at the ceremony last year when Mares graduated from the police academy and took note that he was the top of his class.
“It’s a pleasure to have Jesse working for us, I actually went to his graduation last fall, not knowing that he would be here,” said Chief Corley. “I believe he was number one in his class and I noticed him right away, that he was the type of guy we want to have working here.”
Mayor Stephen Haynes welcomed Mares and offered him well wishes and safety as he begins working for the Brownwood Police Department.
Mares is a 2007 graduate of Brownwood High School. Mares previously worked as an officer in Cisco after graduation from the academy until a position became available in Brownwood.
