A local man died Friday night from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident that occurred around 9:40pm near the intersection of Austin Avenue and Main Street in front of the Brownwood Fire Station.
Authorities state that the wreck claimed the life of 24-year-old Chris Jones.
According to Brownwood Assistant Chief of Police James Fuller, witnesses of the accident report that Jones was driving his motorcycle over Truman Harlow overpass toward the intersection at a high rate of speed when he swerved to miss a Dodge pickup stopped at the traffic light. Witnesses report that after Jones swerved, he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a light pole on Austin Avenue near the fire station.
Brownwood firefighters, Guardian EMS, Brownwood Police and Texas Department of Public Safety worked the accident scene.
Emergency responders transported Jones by ambulance to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where he passed away shortly before 10:30pm Friday.
Just hours after the crash, friends and family began offering condolences and support to Jones’ family on Facebook. Jones was a Howard Payne University student and HPU band member.
Services for Jones are pending with Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
