A major accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 338 and US Hwy 183 north of Early shortly after 3pm on Friday, resulting in the airlifting of an elderly man with very serious injuries authorities said.
Traffic was blocked in both directions for nearly an hour while emergency crews helped the victims and then cleared the scene.
Initial reports from officials on scene indicate that one of the vehicles pulled from CR 338 into the oncoming vehicle that was traveling on US Hwy 183. A tan passenger car received the worst damage. An elderly male who was unresponsive and trapped in the car had to be extracted from the vehicle and was then flown to the hospital by the Air Evac flight team. North Ridge Baptist Church served as the landing zone for the air ambulance.
Authorities said that the driver and passenger of the other vehicle received non life-threatening injuries. Those involved in the accident have not been identified.
The accident scene was inside the Brownwood City limits and will be investigated by Brownwood Police Department. Other emergency and law enforcement agencies on scene and assisting were Texas Department of Public Safety, Early Police Department, Guardian EMS, Brownwood Fire Department, and Early Volunteer Fire Department.
