Maidee Hendrix Wheeler, 93, of May, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 2, 2010. Services will be held at Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Thursday, May 6th at 10:00 AM, Ryan Smithey and Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Pendergrass Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, May 5th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Maidee Hendrix was born on March 7, 1917 in Sidney, Texas to Jack W. Hendrix and Nobie D. Walker Hendrix. She spent her childhood and young adult life in Sidney, where she attended school and graduated from Sidney High School in 1935. In December of the same year, she married teacher Herschel Wheeler and soon after was blessed with two children, Hendrix and Glenda. The devoted wife and mother worked in various careers throughout her life. She and Herschel taught in West Texas before moving to Brown County in 1949. After moving to Brownwood, Maidee worked as a bookkeeper for Hickman Feed & Mill and Bettis & Gibbs Department Store, as well as a hostess for Roy Eazor’s Steakhouse. She continued to work with her son until the age of 87, harvesting peanuts on the family farm in May, Texas.
Maidee Wheeler was a loyal member of 4th and Stewart Church of Christ for over 30 years. Above all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and caregiver gifted in making everyone in her life feel special.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother J.W. Hendrix, Jr. and granddaughter Mika Wheeler. Survivors include son Hendrix and Debbie Wheeler of Brownwood, daughter Glenda and David Milam of California, sister Alene Coffee of Lake Jackson, Texas, grandchildren Stacy Wheeler Adams of Brownwood, Davi Ann Milam Weir of California, John Milam of California, Frank Muise of California, Kathy Milam of California, Missi Wheeler Malone of Brownwood, 6 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
