Maggie Lee Henson was a student at Woodland Heights Elementary for her kindergarten and part of her first grade year before her family moved away. Even though her time in the district was short, Maggie Lee was still part of the Woodland Heights family.
The school was deeply saddened to learn of Maggie Lee’s death this summer following a tragic bus accident. During the three weeks the pre-teen held on after the accident, Principal Bob Turner said her Woodland Heights family were able to follow her progress at the hospital through caringbridge.org.
Maggie Lee would have turned 13 years old this Thursday, October 29 and on that one single day, more than 17,000 people through Facebook and word of mouth have committed to performing one act of kindness.
In honor of their lost loved one, Woodland Heights Elementary will hold their annual canned-food drive on Thursday with all donations going to the Good Samaritan Ministries. This year, Turner said, they are opening the opportunity to give up to the community.
The front drive of Woodland Heights Elementary will be open as a “drive-through” Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 with students and teachers helping to gather donations from members of the community.
