Mae Claire was born in May, Texas to Stanley Ketchell and Twillie Camilla (Smith) McBride on April 20, 1939. Her family moved around central and west Texas until they settled in Midland where she attended Midland High School, graduating in 1957. Following graduation, Mae Claire became a secretary at Sinclair Oil Company and continued to work in the oil business as a secretary, lease analyst and other roles for the next 45 years. She enjoyed and was proud of her professional career and companies often asked for her to return during her retirement.

Mae Claire’s interests included quilting, genealogy, gardening, taking care of her cats, sports and politics. One of her favorite memories was attending the Texas Rangers’ ALCS-clinching baseball game in Arlington in 2011 with her son Richard. She was also very proud of her family members that served their country – her husband, David, served in the Army and fought in the Korean war, son Richard attended the Air Force Academy and served in the Air Force, brother Johnny served in the Army, and several of her uncles served their country proudly. As part of her genealogy work she found ties to two former US Presidents, Jamestown ancestors and several founding settlers of the New Amsterdam Colony (which became New York City). She was also an avid collector of dishware including floral styles and depression era glass. Her infectious laugh and old style sense of humor kept everyone around her happy and laughing, even during the last years of her life. She was the favorite of all her doctors, nurses and attendants.

Mae Claire married Hoyt Lynch in 1959 and had two sons, Richard and Monte. She divorced Hoyt and married David McCoard in August 1969, moving to Arlington together with their children in 1973 where she lived until her death.

Mae Claire is preceded in death by her parents Stanley Ketchell and Twillie Camilla McBride of Early, Texas, sister Barbara Joy McBride of Grand Prairie, Texas, brother Johnny Lee McBride of Odessa, Texas, and husband David James McCoard.
