GarrettMabelFuneral services for Mabel Lorene Garrett will be Wednesday September 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early, interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Grosvenor, Texas with Pastor Todd King officiating.

She passed away from this life Sunday September 19, 2010 at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center in Brownwood, Texas.

Mabel was born February 23, 1922 in eastern Coleman County, Texas to Harvey “H.L.” and Ellen Cates Lovel. She was the 9th of 9 childr3en. She grew up in Coleman and Brown counties. Mabel began her schooling in the new brick school located in Grosvenor, Texas for the 1928-29 school year.
Her family stayed in Grosvenor until 1934 when they moved to Sour Lake in Hardin County, Texas One year later they returned to Coleman county and settled near the Buffalo community in 1936. Mabel finished school at the Buffalo school.

She met the love of her life Clarence Garrett, in the 1940’s at the Douglas Aircraft base in Oklahoma where she was employed. She worked assembling airplanes for the military to be used in WWII. When the war was over, she and Clarence moved to Alvin, Texas, and remained there until the 1960’s when they relocated to the Shreveport, La. Area.
Mabel went to work at Western Electric which was part of A.T.&T. building telephones, she worked there until she retired in 1984.

Clarence passed away in 1980 she returned to Brown county to be near her sister at Grosvenor. Mabel lived with her niece/caregiver for several years before spending her last months in a local nursing home.

Left to treasure her memories are her daughter Linda Ainsworth of Keithville, La., niece and care giver Wyvetta Smiley Casey of Grosvenor, Texas, one step-daughter-in-law of Hampton, Ga. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband. one stepson Edward Garrett, 3 brothers, 5 sisters and four nephews.

Where Mabel once walked the dirt roads of Texas. She now walks the streets paved in gold hand-in-hand with her Lord Jesus.
