Tickets are now on sale for the Lyric Theatre’s production of “Annie Get Your Gun” and ten performance times are offered over the next two weeks starting Thursday at the Dorothy McIntosh Fine Arts Center at Brownwood High School.
Director of the show Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld said that “Annie Get Your Gun” is based on the historical characters of Annie Oakley and her husband Frank Butler. Annie was an anomaly since she was an amazing sharpshooter which was unusual for a girl at the time. Frank Butler was also a sharpshooter and both toured with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Sitting Bull, the famous Sioux warrior took Annie as his adopted daughter later on, and that is showcased in the show as well.
“There are several songs that folks will recognize such as ‘Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better,’ ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business,’ and ‘I’ve Got the Sun in the Morning,’” Humfeld said. “Other songs are maybe not as well-known, but are beautiful and fun. The cast is outstanding. Several veterans of the Lyric stage are performing again this year, but we have several newcomers to the Lyric that are a delight.”
Humfeld said that this musical offers something for everyone and will be enjoyable from start to finish.
“Basically we chose this musical because it was one that we thought folks would really enjoy,” Humfeld said. “It has a western theme with which everyone can relate. It has great songs, fun dialogue and terrific characters. I think everyone will really enjoy the show.”

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online and at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
