“An Evening with the Lyric” fundraiser dinner and street dance was held in downtown Brownwood in front of the historic theater Saturday night, taking supporters back to the 1940s. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the restoration of the Lyric Theatre.
The scene was set downtown with classic vehicles parked in the streets along with a host of performers and servers in period dress. Attendees enjoyed dancing in the street to the sound of live big band music along with a delicious meal. The Lyric Theatre was also open for tours with a peek at the current restoration efforts.
The Lyric was built in 1914 and was originally designed for live performances. As silent movies and feature films became popular, the Lyric was transformed into a movie house.
