Brownwood’s Lyric Theatre announces the opening of its first summer 2013 show, “The Fiddle Jig of Finn O’Flynn” which runs Wednesday through Friday of this week at the Howard Payne University Theatre. The show is written and directed by Mr. Nicholas Ewen, the Assistant Professor of Theatre at Howard Payne University.
“The Fiddle-Jig of Finn O’Flynn” is a fun family drama about a young boy, Mitch, as he deals with his brother leaving to fight as a soldier in World War II, a local bully, and the mysterious and magical effects of a strange, fiddle-wielding old man. It is a story about learning to deal with fear and loss, and finding the magic in music and friendship. Ewen drew on many of his own family stories, his obsession with Irish folk tales, and his love of fiddle music as inspiration for writing the play. His own brother, Matt Ewen, also contributed to the creation of the play, having composed and performed the fiddle tune of the title.
“We are so excited to premier this original show as our summer lineup starter,” said Eric Evans, Managing Director for the Lyric Theatre. “Families are going to love the music and characters.”
The play runs about 55 minutes and is appropriate for kids and adults.
