Graveside services for Lynda Gail Shumate Stephens, age 54, of Brookesmith will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Cox Cemetery with Reverend Ruben Packer officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home & Cremations. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Stephens died February 26, 2011, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Lynda was born September 11, 1956 in Brownwood to Jess and Mozelle (Hill) Shumate. She lived most of her life in Brookesmith, and wore many hats, from wallpaper hanger to truck driver. On March 30, 1998, Lynda married Darrell Stephens in Abilene.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell Stephens of Brookesmith; children, Shana and Michael Powell of Bangs, Kevin and Amanda Shumate of Brookesmith and Brandon and Julie Gilbreath of Bangs; parents, Jess and Mozelle Shumate of Brookesmith; brother, Roy Shumate of Brookesmith; sisters, Jackie Newton of Brookesmith, Jana Shumate of Goldthwaite and Gwen Brush of Bangs; grandmother, Mama Henney; grandchildren, Tristan Gilbreath, Christopher Maly, Ashton and Xan Powell, Cade, Madison and Maddox Shumate, Hannah, Brooklann and Baylor Gilbreath; several nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, McCall Kevin Shumate.
