Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Lucille was born in Roaring Springs, Texas to James Bascum Rape and Ethel Dodson Rape on February 21, 1919. She graduated from high school and shortly thereafter they opened The Tackle Shop on Highway 279 in Brownwood and operated it for about 20 years. Thereafter she worked for the new owner until she was approximately 80 years old.
Her primary full time job was to be a supportive wife and raise three sons and several grandchildren-at least part time. Gussie preceded her in death on September 22, 1991.
Lucille prided herself on her work ethic and strong will. Up until about nine months ago, she walked a mile every morning before daylight, lived in her home alone and drove her car. She was a great cook and had a beautiful garden every year. She had no problem giving you her opinion on a number of subjects-sometimes unsolicited.
She was a member of the Belle Plain Baptist Church until it closed and then the Avenue D Baptist Church more recently. She was an involved Christian who would do anything in the service of her Lord. She would roll up her sleeves to help anyone that would help themselves. She set a fine example for all who knew her. She will be missed.
Lucille is survived by her son Don Meador and wife Joanna of Hawley, son Gary Meador and wife Nita of Brownwood; grandchildren, Jami Meador of Houston, Jarah Meador of Dobbs Ferry, New York, Cody Meador of Brownwood, Dena Jones of Hawley, Donna Dobbins of Brownwood, Dawn
Chris Meador of Lyndale, Dustin Belshi of Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Morgan Meador of Brownwood, Heath Allen of Saginaw, Misty Edwards of Coleman, Amariah Meador, Peyton Meador, Paige Meador of Ft. Worth; 24 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter, Sharon Lee Meador; son, Kenneth “Gus” Meador; parents; two brothers; and a sister. She was also preceded by a granddaughter, Dana Meador Castleberry.
