The Pecan Valley Republican Women’s Club luncheon will feature Gail Lowe, State Board of Education member for District 14 at 11:30am on Wednesday, February 22nd at the Brownwood Country Club. The public is invited to come and enjoy the lunch buffet and get an update from Lowe on the activities of the State Board of Education.
Gail Lowe represents District 14, which encompasses 26 counties in Central and North Central Texas. She is in her third term on the 15-member board, and was appointed in July 2009 by Governor Rick Perry to serve a two-year term as chairman of the board. During her tenure on the State Board of Education, she has chaired the Committee on School Initiatives and also has been a member of the Committee on School Finance/Permanent School Fund.
She and her husband, Jim, reside in Lampasas where they are co-owners and co-publishers of the semi-weekly newspaper Lampasas Dispatch Record.
Gail is a former Lampasas school board trustee, and a long-time classroom volunteer, where she has worked primarily with elementary-age students to help improve their reading and mathematics skills. In addition to their civic involvement, Gail and her family also are active members of New Covenant Church in Lampasas, where she has served on the financial review board.
She was a charter member of the Lampasas Republican Women’s Club and is a member of the Lampasas Republican Club. Gail also serves on the board of the Lampasas County Higher Education Center Foundation.
In 2005, the non-partisan Lampasas County Conservative Club named her Conservative of the Year. She was a 2010 recipient of the American Exceptionalism Award given by Americans for Prosperity Texas. And in 2011, she received the national Eagle Award from Texas for her “dedication to God, country and family.”
Gail and her husband have three children who all graduated from Lampasas public schools.
Beginning in 2013, District 14 will include the counties of Bosque, Brown, Comanche, Coryell, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Jack, Johnson, Lampasas, McLennan, Mills, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Somervell, Stephens and Wise.
