Louise Barkley Herdman was born on May 11, 1934 in Panhandle, TX, and passed away in Dallas, TX on September 30, 2019. Louise was a graduate of Borger High School, Borger, TX Class of 1952. She became an employee of Phillips Chemical Company following high school graduation, and continued employment of seventeen years, transferring to various company locations within the state.
She married Arnold Herdman in 1968 in Brownwood, TX. She adopted his two daughters Carolyn and Aundria. Arnold and Louise had one son, Dale. Louise was affiliated with various organizations in Brownwood and served on several Boards of Directors. She was involved in a number of volunteer services including school programs, hospital volunteers, Brownwood Beautification Commission, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, United Way, Howard Payne University Sustaining Program, Leadership Brownwood, Centennial Committee, Cultural Affairs Committee, and chaired several charitable benefits. She was credited for the certification of a Rural Health Clinic for a neighboring community, and the compilation of several organizational histories, requiring many hours of research, interviews, etc. She was the recipient of the distinguished honor award, “Woman of the Year”, presented by the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Chamber’s “Outstanding Service to the Community” Award. She was also recognized at the state level, for her involvement in volunteer services.
Louise is preceded in death by her husband Arnold, her parents, Wayne and Earlene Barkley, her brothers, Charles, Joe,and Earl. Surviving: Son, Dale Herdman of Dallas; Daughter, Carolyn Mabee of Brownwood; Daughter, Aundria Crawford of Amarillo. Four grandchildren, Lee Mabee, Felicia Pinson of Brownwood, and Heather Bundy and Ryan Crawford of Amarillo. Four great-grandchildren, Sky Mabee and Jordan Snapp of Brownwood, and Blake Bundy and Gracie Bundy of Amarillo.
Graveside services will be conducted at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, TX on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Paul Kirby of Mullin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to: Shriners Burn Hospital for Children, 815 Market St., Galveston, TX 77550.
