A deep upper level trough will approach West Central Texas this weekend, resulting in increased rain chances. Brown County is likely to see the most widespread heavy rain event in several months across the area.
Showers and thunderstorms will begin to increase over west Texas late Friday and early Saturday, then spread into West Central Texas throughout the day on Saturday. The best chance of heavy rainfall is expected to occur late Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Widespread rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches are expected over much of the area, with locally higher amounts possible.
Although much of the area continues to suffer from extreme to exceptional drought conditions, a prolonged period of heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding. A flash flood watch may be needed in the near future, if a heavy rain event becomes more imminent.
Residents are urged to monitor future forecasts from the National Weather Service as this heavy rainfall event begins to unfold.
