Written by Ben Cox – Now that the stuffing has been eaten, and you feel as though you’ve been stuffed just like the bird was, it’s time to plan the 2nd annual tradition of the week: Christmas Shopping.
It is easy to shop online and find the gadget or toy that the people on your list have been clamoring for, but if you’re game, you can make Christmas brighter for the people you’re buying FROM as well.
Local merchants depend on local dollars to stay afloat, especially during the holiday gift giving season.
Now, I am not saying to abandon the Amazon Deal of the Day, or even skip that trip to Abilene or Austin. But I am asking that you also consider the gems we have here in the little hamlet we call home.
How about season tickets to the Brownwood Lyric Theatre for the grand parents? Or what about a gift basket of goodies from Arrows & Oaks or Early Blooms and Things?
A gift certificate to Steve’s Market & Deli or The Turtle for the foodie in your family would be a treat. Hand made items from the Artisan Market or the tools to make something themselves from Weakley Watson’s or McCoy’s are always a good call.
Rounds of golf from either The Hideout or the Brownwood Country Club are always a big hit. Maybe stocking stuffers like gift cards for frozen yogurt from Jacobs Pharmacy or some delicious home made fudge from Doc’s?
Or, make it super easy on yourself and put a couple bills in a card, and tell that hunter in your life to put it towards a new scope they’ve been eyeing every time they walk into Weakley Watson’s in Early. Or tell the musician in your family to make it part of that guitar they’ve been dreaming about at Brownwood Music.
Wherever you shop this year, remember that your dollars always mean something to the people you spend them with, but they will always mean a lot more if they’re spent right here in Brownwood.
