Local photographers, both professional and amateur of various ages, participated in the Worldwide Photo Walk at the Brownwood Regional Airport on Saturday.
The Brownwood Art Association Photo Group organized the local photo walk which was led by Brownwood photographer Kim Hurt. After the walk, participants met at the Art Center in downtown Brownwood to discuss their photos and photography in general.
Photographers participating in the Brownwood Photo Walk included and pictured above were Sulema Orr, Lisa Tipton (not pictured), Craig Seger, John Sommer, Fred Spencer, Liza Weckworth, Pat Coursey, Nell Coursey, Amanda White, Roger Engle and Kim Hurt.
Throughout the world, each photo walk chooses a location where groups of photographers walk together photographing subjects and “hanging out discussing their trade or interest.” Each photographer looks to find the winning subject matter to photograph. Some groups walk together through several city blocks, a park, a historic site, a train station, a nature preserve, a state park or an airplane hangar as was selected in Brownwood.
In Brownwood, the location offered aircraft, landscape with an overcast sky, many great World War II era architectural structures within the hanger, birds flying about and the mechanical parts of both the planes and the hanger itself. Although having the exact same subject matter available, each photographer came up with photos showing the way they see the world around them, resulting in a variety of interesting photos.
Each photographer will select a single photo to enter into the contest. Each photo walk will have a local winner and all participants can compete in a worldwide contest.
The Photo Walk, a worldwide event, took place on Saturday in 1339 different locations with 32,138 people participating. The event has increased from just 236 locations and 8,324 people participating in the first Worldwide Photo Walk in 2008.
