Brownwood News – Both the Brown County Museum of History and the Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum will be participating in International Museum Day on Saturday, May 20th. The museums will have special exhibits and learning opportunities as well as activities for children. Entrance to both museums will be free of charge on that day.
The Brown County Museum of History will be exploring the Native American Way of Life from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 209 N. Broadway in Brownwood.
The Lehnis Railroad Museum will be exploring the Transcontinental Railroad from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 700 E. Adams Street in Brownwood. The Lehnis Railroad Museum will also have their mini train operating throughout the day, with rides for $2 per person.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society, and it has been steadily gaining momentum ever since. In 2016, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with more than 35,000 museums hosting events in 145 countries.
