September is National Emergency Preparedness Month when local communities urge citizens to prepare in advance for disasters. In recognition of the many local leaders that help Brownwood educate the public and regularly participate in drills, the Texas State Guard presented certificates of appreciation at Tuesday morning’s Brownwood city council meeting.
Chaplain Major Dave Fair (who is a part of the local AT Planning Team) introduced several officers from the Texas State Guard that were present for the recognition, which included Major General Raymond Peters-TXSG Commanding, Brigadier General Charles Miller-TXSG Chief of Staff, Col. Janis Bruno-TXSG Deputy Chief of Staff, Col. Dr. James Hays-TXSG Staff Surgeon, and Major Robert Spratt-Representing the J3 Section & Part of the local AT Planning Team.

Major Spratt expressed thanks to Brownwood for being supportive of the military stating, “We appreciate the support of such a patriotic community.”
Thanks was expressed by recipients as well as by Mayor Stephen Haynes for the work the Texas State Guard does to ensure the safety and preparedness of the community in case of disaster.
“It’s such an honor each summer to have the Guard and other military here,” stated Mayor Haynes. “We appreciate the spirit of volunteerism you have.”
