The Brownwood office for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas will soon find a new home in the Family Services Center.
Currently, the Girl Scouts lease the three story former Brownwood ISD school administration building at 1200 Avenue D which is still owned by the school district. The Girl Scouts sent a letter to BISD stating that they intend to relocate to the Family Services Center prior to the expiration date of their current lease which is December 2013.
“They have an outstanding opportunity to move to the Family Services Center; they only have three employees in a three story building and moving to a one-room area in the Family Services Center is more cost effective for them,” said Deputy Superintendent Kevin Gabaree at Monday’s BISD school board meeting. “Their agreement actually expires December of this year, 2013, but they are wanting to move out sooner than that.”
Gabaree said that they will likely move to their new location on June 1st but will need through September to move everything out of the district’s building.
“We are not sure what to do except get the word out that it is about to be open and then ask the board how we want to move forward with this building,” Gabaree said.
Options for the district are to either find a new tenant or to offer the building for sale.
District officials are planning to walk through the building soon to assess its condition.
