Written by Ben Cox – That Crane Store is a ladies and children’s boutique on W Anderson across from Good Samaritan, operated by owner Amanda Scott. The store was originally located south of Odessa in Crane, TX which is the original of the name.

Scott moved the store to Brownwood after realizing she had more business locally than she did three hours away. Approaching one year in its present location, That Crane Store is enjoying success and has recently expanded its offerings to include a line of children’s clothes and shoes.

A some-time dream of Scott’s, she “wanted to open a kid’s store forever”. Her dream changed to the desire for an online store, with her offering shirts through Facebook and her Etsy store. Finally taking shape as That Crane Store, the store has a fun and casual vibe, and came at an opportune time for Scott.

While staying home with her kids, she says her husband told her she would “have to go out and get a real job.” She stalled him long enough to get the store started and says they’re happy with the direction their leap of faith took them.

Offering what she calls “day to day basic, stuff that you’d wear everyday”, Scott describes the store’s lines as comfortable and cute. Jewelry, footwear, intimates, and and bath products round out the store.

The walls and walk way featuring several Scriptures, the store is a way for Scott to share part of her faith in an unobtrusive way.

Scott often tells her clients to “just come by and talk, we have fun here.” She also tries to see the store from her customers point of view, saying “would I spend that on this? Cause if not then I’m not gonna do it.”

Adorned with  fun and inspiring clothing designs, the store offers clothing in several sizes, including plus sized items.

Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can call 325-642-4245, visit their Facebook page, or drop in to shop and stay for a friendly chat with Amanda.
