This weekend the 2012 Myrle Greathouse Big Country FCA All-Star Classic football and basketball games will be taking place in Abilene and local athletes, Stehl Ratliff and Sara Byrd will represent Brownwood along with Coach Bob Shipley who will be coaching the South football team. Other Brown County athletes are highlighted below in blue.
The 13th annual football game will be coached by Shipley and Brad Schoonmaker of Hawley leading the North. Conon Emmons of Menard, Brian Hastings of Irion County, Stephen Hermesmeyer of Winters and Donnie Jackson of Christoval will join Coach Shipley as the South’s coaching staff. Cameron Cox of Anson, Brody Deaver of Rangers, Trey Gardner of Coahoma and Troy Hinds of Anson will make up the coaching staff for the North assisting Coach Schoonmaker.
The 4th annual Women’s Basketball Classic will be coached by Will Corley (South) and Trent Lankford (North). Jerry McSherry of Brady will be the assistant coach for the South and Clay Barnett of Merkel will be the North’s assistant coach.
Both games will take place on Saturday, June 2nd and all proceeds will benefit the Big Country Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Shotwell Stadium will be the venue for the football game and Abilene Christian’s Moody Coliseum will host the basketball game.
Ticket are available at the gates and are good for both the basketball and the football game. Adults are $10. Family passes good for 2-adults and up to 3 students or children are $25. Student tickets are also available for $5.
Players and cheerleaders for the 2012 all-stars games were announced February 19thand were honored at the All-Star Classic “Sharing the Victory Banquet” on April 22nd. Graham Harrell, current quarterback of the Green Bay Packers and former All-American for Texas Tech’s Red Raiders was the guest speaker of the banquet.
