The 12th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit is gearing up for a big year as entries poured in over the weekend in hopes to be selected.
Well over 100 pieces of artwork were submitted on Friday afternoon which is a record number for the first entry day according to organizers. Many more photos, paintings, drawings, and sculptures were submitted on Saturday which could make 2010 the biggest year ever for the art exhibit.
This year’s event will officially kick off on Saturday, February 6 with the opening reception & awards ceremony from 7 to 9 pm at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood.
The show will then open daily on February 7 – 19th.
Awards to be presented this year include: $1000 Dorothy Mayes Best of Show; $750 Juror Award; $500 Don C. Martin Memorial Sculpture Award; $500 Kohler Award; $500 Merit Award; $100 each Five Honorable Mention Awards; People’s Choice Ribbon, and $750 WINN Paint-Off Awards.
The juror for the 2010 Annual Art Exhibit and Show will be John Hartley who is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at UT Arlington. Once again the Stars of Texas will host the well received Paint-Off Competition on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Depot. Two cash prizes of $500 and $250 will be awarded. Also the Salon Des Refuses will again be sponsored by the Brownwood Art Association and held Feb 7-19 at the Art Center.
