Alvarado

Brownwood Lions won their homecoming game against the Alvarado Indians Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium with a score of 29-15.

Although Alvarado had a good first possession, the Lions played well on both sides of the ball according to Brownwood High School Athletic Director and Head Coach Chuck Howard.

“Tonight, the credit goes to our players.  For the past four weeks they have been giving an extremely hard effort on both sides of the ball,” said Howard.  “Practices have been great this week and they have worked really hard.”

Although Alvarado had 171 yards of rushing in the first half, the Lions passing game was able to lead the first half 26-15.

“We have respect for their running backs,” said Howard.   “Their two running backs are the best of any BHS has played this season.”

Howard stated that the Lions made some changes in alignment and played with discipline in the second half to hold Alvarado to just 33 yards rushing in the second half.  They scored twice on turnovers on short fields.  Howard stated that the Lions “played smarter which allowed us to be successful” in the second half.

He stated that the Lions are getting better each week and that he felt the defense especially played extra hard this.  Along with the defensive effort, the team worked great as a team, according to Howard.

On offense, several players made some impressive plays.  Howard stated, “We have several players that are threats and players we can go to.”

Howard encouraged the fans to continue to support the Lions by coming to the games.  He stated that the credit for the win Friday goes to the team,  and that the players have invested a lot of time, blood sweat and tears and are now buying into their own success.

The Brownwood Lions are now 2-2 for the season and will take on the Burkburnet Bulldogs in Burkburnett next Friday in an early start game at 7:00 p.m.
