The Brownwood Lions will travel to Lampasas Friday for what promises to be great football game against yet another tough district competitor.
The Lampasas Badgers have a 0-2 record in district play and a season record of 2-5, but still have a skilled team that the Lions will have to work hard to keep out of the end zone. According to Brownwood High School Head Coach Chuck Howard, you can’t pay attention to records.
“They soundly beat a very good China Spring team earlier in the year and had an opportunity to beat Llano in overtime last week. They could very easily be 1-1 in district,” explained Howard.
Howard illustrated some of the Badgers’ strengths.
“They execute very well on offense and as of late have been scoring a lot of points. (57 against Llano),” he stated. “They are also getting a nose guard back this week which will help them solidify their defense.”
Although there are several very good players, there are two key players the team tends to lean on, #29 Steven Jadzyk and #2 Cale Walker, both of whom are athletic and have very good speed. The Lions, according to Howard, are ready to go with a full roster of healthy players, with the exception of injured runningback/cornerback Austin Chick. When asked if the Lions are looking forward to playing Lampasas, Howard stated that they are, and that the team is looking forward to advancing to the playoffs.
“Absolutely, this game is as equally important as any district game we play. Lampasas is standing between us and the playoffs just like Burnet and Liberty Hill. We need to show up ready to play. Our players understand this,” stated Coach Howard.
To secure the win, Howard stated that the Lions have to stay strong on offense and defense.
“We need to have a fast start on both sides of the ball. Defensively we need to be physical, control the line of scrimmage and not give up the big play which hurt us last week,” said Howard. “Offensively we need to execute, take care of the football and put the ball in the end zone.”
Coach Howard stated the importance of Lions fans’ support and encourages everyone to make the drive to Lampasas for a great game. Knowing that the Lions are playing is something he stated is worth getting excited about.
“Anyone that has seen us knows how hard our Brownwood Lions play and how important it is to them to represent Brownwood. We are expecting a good crowd in Lampasas,” he said.
