The Brownwood Lions Soccer Team came out victorious in their game against San Angelo Lakeview Tuesday night at Gordon Wood Stadium with a score of 7-4, their district record now 2-0.
Coach J.B. Gibbs gave a recap of the game:
“We started well against Lakeview (the two-time defending district champions) and took the game to them for the first 10-15 minutes. We were rewarded for our play with a goal in the 6th minute when Nathan Ross received a pass from his right, turned, and played Michael Westerman through towards goal. Michael placed the ball just inside the right post.
Lakeview continued to press to find the tying goal but were repeatedly turned away by the defense. The game reached a climax when, in the 75th minute Lakeview was awarded a penalty kick. Up stepped the two-time district MVP, Javier Parry, to try to tie the game. His shot was low and towards the middle of the goal and Dakota Pulley made the save to preserve the game!
We have started well in winning our first two district games, but there is still a long way to go.”
The Lions will take on Wylie in Abilene tonight at 7:00pm. JV will also face Wylie at 5:00pm in Abilene.
