After a hard week of preparation, the Brownwood Lions and their coach Chuck Howard are ready to face off with the Graham Steers in their first out of town game.

According to Coach Howard, most of the players that were out last week will be back in the game this week.  Braxton Kilgo, who was out last week because of an injury, won’t be in Friday’s game and may or may not be able to play the next week, as he will be a day to day decision according to Howard.

Last week, the Lions had a harsh loss to Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal team with many Division I recruits.  The Lions played with heart and are moving forward after a hard week of practice.

“Our players are mentally tough.  We have had a great week of practice and are looking forward to playing a good Graham team,” said Coach Howard.  “We know we have to take care of the football and minimize the mental mistakes we made last week.  I will take our players any day.”

The team is fired up for the game according to Howard, who explained they are always fired up anytime they step onto the field.

“I think what you will see from our players is that any time we step on the field we are going to get after whomever, regardless if it’s an in town or out of town game,” he stated.

The team has quite a few young players and Howard stated that he thought they performed well.  “Again, there were several mental errors made which are to be expected but I believe anyone that watched the game can see many positives,” Howard said.

The Lions’ coaching staff has high expectations for the team, as do the players.  “As coaches we are proud of our players and believe in them whole heartedly,” said Coach Howard.  “The coaches as well as the players will tell you we are not where we want to be, but we are going to get there.”

Graham is ranked 5th in the state by the Harris Ratings after they defeated Mineral Wells last week 51-7.
