Brownwood Lions turned around their season with a big win against the Snyder Tigers 49-14, thrilling their coaches and giving a morale boost to the team.
“We finally got some breaks and got things going tonight,” said Lions head coach Bob Shipley. “When we didn’t force a turn over, we got punt returns or recovered fumbles. I’m thrilled with this win tonight.”
Dedicating the game to their injured player Clint Taylor, the Lions came out strong in the first quarter and kept the trend going to the end of the game allowing Snyder to score only twice. Players Vickers and Newman wore the injured Taylor and Colton Guidry’s jerseys as well.
“When you are tired or want to take a play off, think of Clint and how he would play,” was the inspirational thought for players tonight according Shipley.
He stated that because of Keesee’s hit last week, coaches decided not to let him run the ball. He said that he was proud of the offensive line which played well.
“Keesee stepped up and delivered the last touchdown pass like a pro, he’s gaining in confidence,” said Shipley. Keese was 19 of 20 with 285 passing yards, 5 TDs and one pick.
Howey had 12 catches for 182 yards rushing. Shipley stated that the team needs to get the ball to Howey as much as possible.
“We’ve got to get him the ball as much as we can. He’s a gamer,” said Shipley. “He’s a lot of fun to watch.”
Shipley stated that the team didn’t break defensive effort. He explained that the team needs to play off this week’s win and use it in their effort to beat a really good Wylie team next week. The Lions are now 1-2 on the season.
