footballbanquet2010Monday night the Brownwood High School Football Banquet honored all of this year’s players.  Master of Ceremonies was Dallas Houston…the voice of the Lions.

Each proud Lion walked across the stage and received a certificate from their coaches.  A large crowd of proud parents, past coaches, past players, and special guests enjoyed a great evening of gratitude to the players that made this season so memorable.  As Head Coach Bob Shipley put it, “We didn’t quite meet all our goals for this year…but we are going to continue what we started with this year’s Seniors…winning gold footballs.”  He noted how great it feels to come back to your school one day with your kids and be able to point out which of those gold footballs you helped the team earn.

Special guests were recognized and thanked for being loyal Lions fans.

Bill Faircloth, Principal of Brownwood High School, presented the Chris Hart Memorial Scholarship to Joseph Henry.

Judge Steve Ellis awarded the Deborah Ellis Memorial Scholarship to Westin Jacobs.

Shipley introduced this year’s Senior players and noted that, “This was a team of Seniors that were very unselfish…they didn’t care who got the glory and recognition”, further stating that everyone worked together and because of that it was a great season.  Farewell remarks were then given by the Senior players.

Tyler Kemp remembered being a student in Brookesmith and attending his first Lions’ football game, hearing the “Welcome to the Jungle” theme song and seeing the guys filled him with emotion and how it was then that he told his dad that he wanted to one day “walk through that tunnel!”

J.C. Pitts reminisced about being in 7th Grade and how Coach Davis showed him how to put his pads in his pants.

Roly Casteneda noted how everyone was concerned about getting a new coach, but how Coach Shipley had “turned us around, we helped each other and it turned into something special…It was awesome.”

Logan Gough thanked the coaches by saying, “It was the best season I’ve ever had.”

Westin Jacobs thanked his family, notably his younger brother stating, “It’s not hard to do good when you have those little eyes watching you.”

The Cheerleaders then lead the crowd in the Alma Mater.  Dallas Houston noted that the Brownwood High School Song was written many years ago by a BHS Band Director, especially for Brownwood.  In itself that is special; however he pointed out that “whoever is the head coach (of Brownwood High School) at the time is one of the few coaches in Texas that have ever had his name in an Alma Mater.”

“Brownwood High, we love you, dear old Brownwood High. Brownwood High, your honor standard always we’ll hold high.  Brownwood High, your true sons, back your every man.  Brownwood High, we love you, first in state and first in land.  Here’s to the school we love boys, here’s to her sons so true; Here’s to her teams and victories; here’s to prexy, too.  Here’s to Coach Shipley’s Lions, boys, here’s to each thing you do.  Hand in hand, man to man, staunch for Brownwood High we stand.  Here’s to dear old Brownwood High.”

Weston Jacob led the closing benediction.  Then the crowd enjoyed the annual high lights video.
