Snyder

In a very close and exciting homecoming game, the Brownwood Lions and head coach Chuck Howard won their first game of the season against a determined Snyder Tigers 46-43.

In the first quarter, the Lions came up with two scoring drives along with a 2-point conversion to start the game with a 15 point lead.

In the second half it was a back and forth game with 8 touchdowns between both teams.  Four of these touchdowns were made in the last three minutes of the game, as both teams were determined to win.

Brownwood managed to get the last score of the game during the last 38 seconds, securing a 3 point victory.

Howard stated that he was very proud of the team and how they played and never gave up.

“I’m so proud of these kids.  They had every opportunity to throw in the towel but our kids fought,” said Howard.

He explained that the coaches have been telling the team that they have to believe in themselves and in their teammates.  This week they did just that and it paid off.

“They found a way to do it and I’m so proud of them,” said Howard.

The team played with an intensity that hasn’t been seen all season according to Howard.

“They played with more intensity and passion, with more intensity,” said Howard.  “They tackled better and made it more difficult for them (Snyder).  They found some confidence.”

Howard stated that he has always known the team had potential to win.

“I see the team, how they are and how we can be,” said Howard.  “They have to have confidence and believe in themselves, we’re going to get where we need to be.”

Execution was key and the team converted several crucial downs to help them secure the win.

“We had 3rd and 1 and a 4th and 1, and tonight we made them,” said a proud Howard.  “A lot of the guys had a great night and I’m proud of that.”

In looking toward the game against Wylie next Friday, Howard stated that Wylie Head Coach Hugh Sandifer has a great program as always this year, but that the Lions will be ready.

“We’re going to prepare well, work hard and try to find a way to win,” said Howard.

The Lions go into next week’s road game against Abilene Wylie with a 1-2 record.
