The Brownwood Lionettes are in the “Big Apple,” New York City, preparing for their performance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Although they are working hard preparing, they are also getting to see the city and some of the famous sights.
The group left early on Friday due weather conditions. Their trip began with a delay the next day. They arrived in Houston’s Hobby Airport at 5:00 a.m. Saturday, where they boarded their plane at 7:00 a.m. only to be unloaded due to mechanical issues. They boarded another flight and arrived in New York City on Friday evening around 7:00 p.m. and began practice from 7:10 p.m. until 10:45 p.m. A crazy first day, according to their sponsor Stacee Hetzel.
Sunday proved to be a bit better as the Lionettes were able to have a full practice and meanwhile, their parents and other family members (the spectators of the group) were able to enjoy the “Big Apple City Tour.” After a busy day, the group came together that evening to attend “Newsies,” a Broadway show.
“The Lionettes loved it (“Newsies”) and they gave a special shout out to them at the end of the show. They have been treated as stars everywhere they have gone!” said Hetzel.
Monday was an adventure as the Lionettes and “spectators” were introduced to the subway system to get to the ferry which would take them to Ellis Island and a tour of the Statue of Liberty.
“There are no words to explain the beauty of Lady Liberty,” explained Hetzel. “It was breathtaking. Wonderful experience for us all.”
After Ellis Island, the Lionettes had a little free time in Times Square to shop and have lunch. Then they went back to the hotel for practice and next to the rehearsal in front of Macy’s.
“The cameras and lights were set up and they were treated as movie stars,” Heztel said. “The rehearsal began with Carrie Underwood, Jimmy Fallon & the Roots, Ariana Grande, Brett Eldridge, and then my girls. So exciting!”
