A memorial service for Linda Jones, age 83, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday July 19, 2017 at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Heartland Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00.
Mrs. Jones passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 in a local nursing home.
Linda Sue Cotten was born on September 7, 1933 in Dallas to Royal Vardeman and Aileen Garrett Cotten. She was married to Lester Jones in Dallas, Texas in 1970 and was a retired Enrollment Agent for H & R Block and had lived in Cape Canaveral, Florida prior to moving to Brownwood in 2006. While in Brownwood, Linda attended Coggin Avenue Baptist Church where she taught the Ruth Sunday School Class. Family was very important to Linda. Holidays and birthdays were celebrated with a large family gathering. She also enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her children James Barry Wilkins and wife Julie of Ft. Worth, Gay Botts of Cross Plains, Marsha Iser and husband Mike of Mancelona, Michigan, Jerrold Wilkins of Brownwood and Ray Wilkins of Brownwood; sisters Carol Wychopen and husband Hal of McAllen; a brother Jerry Cotten and wife Patty of Eureka, California; grandchildren Jim Wilkins, Kelli Freese, Staci Baker, Floyd Rodgers, Jennifer Rodgers, David Wilkins, Devin Wilkins, Summer Wilkins and by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
