The restoration of the Lyric Theatre in Downtown Brownwood will mark a milestone on Tuesday when organizers of the project share something special with the community.
Renovation of the exterior lobby of the Lyric is complete, and the new theatre sign that was installed in April will be lit for the first time on Tuesday during a grand street party celebration. The event will feature live music and a street dance on Center Avenue near the Lyric Theatre. Vintage films will be shown outside for all to see, and spectators can enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, and fun. Those who attended movies and performances at the Lyric in the past will also recount stories of what the Lyric means to them.
Performers from this year’s Lyric Performing Arts Company’s annual musical will perform a part from “Annie” on the street during the event.
The evening will be topped off as 4th grade students will get to flip the switch on the Lyric sign that will light up Downtown Brownwood for years to come. The students were chosen through an essay contest where they wrote about how important the Lyric Theatre is to Brownwood. Essays of 4th grade winners Clay Townsend, Dalainey Garza, Brooke Allen, and Jenna Lyons will be featured during the celebration.
Exclusive commemorative t-shirts will be available to those in attendance for a minimum $12 donation. Food, drinks, popcorn, snowcones, light up necklaces, and bracelets will also be available for donations to the project for those who want to help further the renovation of the Lyric Theatre. The money will help pay for the final phase of renovation of the theatre and complete the last $500,000 needed in the $1.5 million capital campaign.
