Kiera_RowonnaIt began with a gentle pat on my shoulder. I kept my eyes closed and grumbled. I was fairly certain it was one of the dogs trying to wake me.  I snuggled in under the covers just a little more. Then I felt it again and realized it was a little hand patting my shoulder.

I opened my bleary eyes to see Kiera’s beautiful, brown, wide eyes watching me. As I blinked trying to make my eyes stay open, she began to smile.

“I’ll give you and Daddy a coin, if y’all clean the house.”  She softly bribed as she continued to pat my shoulder.

I have no idea how she thought that would make me jump out of bed. First, there has to be coffee involved. Second, I need time to gain consciousness. There is no jumping out of bed, unless I have managed to accidentally turn the alarm off and realize I have thirty minutes to shower and get ready for work.

I blinked a few more times before reaching out to hug my sweet munchkin and dragged her on the bed with us.

“How would you like to watch a movie on my phone while Mommy sleeps for a few more minutes?” I asked.

She curled up under the blankets and asked, “Can I have chocolate milk, Quack-Quack and my blanket?”

“Without a doubt.” I replied as I stumbled out of bed to gather all the necessary items to ensure a few more minutes of sleep.

Now, before you judge me for trying to get a few more minutes of sleep, let me tell you, it has been a crazy few weeks. Aaron and I were exhausted. To top it off, I did not get in until the early morning hours because I had stayed at Relay for Life. This Mama needed some sleep.

I handed all the necessary items to Kiera and let her curl into me. I closed my eyes, briefly saying a prayer of thanks for the angel lying next to me. It was one of those Hallmark moments.

Aaron on one side of the bed, me on the other and Kiera curled in between us as she held her Quack-Quack. The dogs were tucked up on the end of the bed asleep and our cat had curled up above my pillow and was softly purring. Thankfully, we have a king size bed.

It was peaceful and perfect. And then, the most annoying voice came out of my phone speaker. It was a cartoon. But not any cartoon, not a good cartoon. A cartoon that made you wonder how the character would survive in real life.

I peeked at Kiera and watched her for a few moments. I watched as she smiled at the annoying character on the screen and she fiddled with her Quack-Quack. I smiled and rolled over to sleep for a few more minutes.

That, my friends, is a “real” Hallmark moment. The moments that seem perfect with a tiny twist of reality thrown in.

By the way, I keep forgetting to change my bio at the bottom. We have a new/old addition to our family. Ziggy is a male boxer who is scared of thunder and loves to chew random items.  Finally, we add another male to the house to bond with my husband and he turns out to be a chicken.  Oh, well. He fits perfect with our crazy filled life.

Have a great week everyone!
