Thursday afternoon around 1:23pm, Brownwood emergency dispatch sent out a call to EMS regarding a possible drowning at the Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center.
A young boy was pulled from the water and found to be unresponsive by lifeguards. City officials said that lifeguards performed CPR prior to first responders and EMS arrival. Emergency dispatch indicated that the boy was unconscious when responders first arrived, but regained consciousness a few minutes later. Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree said that the lifeguards performed excellently and ultimately saved the boy’s life.
“The lifeguards train for this in hopes that they never have to use it,” stated Rountree. “They (the lifeguards) handled the situation perfectly.”
According to Brownwood Fire Chief Del Albright, the boy was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.
